Klenengan Pujangga Laras

On Friday night, 12 March 2010 we had the fourth klenengan in the 9th fiscal year running. This klenengan was held in Ngringo, Palur at the home of the rector of ISI, Prof Dr. Slamet Suparno. We’ve had one other klenengan at Pak Slamet’s home, and it is a very nice environment—the only problem is his VERY large and noisy dog….It was a little better this time and didn’t interfere with the recording QUITE so much. However we came very late due to our flight being delayed, and the recording is all from Rachel Hands machine and microphone—you may notice a difference and be wondering.

A few of the pieces from the January klenengan (Muntap, Klenthung) were repeated, at the request of the musicians. Unfortunately though, the performances were considered not any better……there were different mess-ups from the January klenengan, but still the musicians were not happy with these two pieces.

The klenengan started at 8:15 and ran through to 2:00 am. First the first time, the first few gendhing planned by a few members of the committee planning Pujangga Laras.

(many comments after the suwuk gropak that in fact in Kedhaton Bentar the 3rd kenongan is supposed to revert to filled in balungan again right at suwuk gropak, then last kenongan nibani to suwuk, which the balungan section didn’t do)
