Kerajinan Gamelan Bp. Mulyadi, Lojiwetan, Solo

Dear Klenengan Friends,

The 11th North American-sponsored klenengan took place at Bapak Mulyadi's in Lojiwetan, starting at 8:00 pm and running until 2:00 am. Although we got started right away at 8:00, a number of musicians were late due to the start of Sekaten, and some Sekaten musicians never arrived (Bp. Karno, Bp. Mulyono)--too tired most likely. Pak Tarno came but seemed exhausted from Sekaten earlier in the day, and fell asleep after the first few gendhing. He was holding the suling and no one was going to take it from his sleeping arms, so there's very little suling in this recording! A few musicians (particularly from STSI--Bps Pardi, Darsono, Yata) couldn't make it at all due to a rehearsal for a concert in Taiwan. It was a lively klenengan nonetheless, with a lot of enthusiasm from the musicians.

The guest gambang player last night was Bapak Sukidjo originally from ASKI, had worked in the library at STSI for a bit, now plays in Yogya and knew Bp. Wakidi and me from when we used to go to pak Cakra's wetonan every month.

He agreed to play ciblon--skipped the kebar the first time around gesturing that he forgot the garapan, but later went into it--and how--after the inggah. This was also pak Wahyo's debut on bonang since his stroke--he seemed to be having a really good time.)
