Kerajinan Gamelan Bp. Mulyadi, Lojiwetan, Solo
Dear Klenengan Friends,
The 10th North American-sponsored klenengan took place at Bapak Mulyadi's in Lojiwetan, starting at 8:00 pm and this time running until 2:30 am. There was a HUGE turnout, even though this is a post-Sura month busy time. The only regular participant not present was Bp. Ali, and there were 8 new musicians who had never attended before:
- Bp. Kuat/RRI
- Bp. Ratno/Kartasura
- Bp. Pardi/STSI
- Bp. Mardi/RRI
- Bp. Ratno (Mas Karman's little brother)
- Ibu Tarini (had come only once before)
- Bp. Yata/STSI
(Mas Yata is the new "hot" penggerong in town. He's about 30 or so, and very sought after these days. He brought everyone to attention with his unusual palaran in the sanga suite.)
- Bp. Kliwon
(Bp. Kliwon is an older gerong with a great voice. Plays with a lot of bapak-bapak groups around town.)
This was Bp. Sular's last klenengan with us for a year, as he has been asked to teach gamelan in Irian Jaya! He'll be at a Kabupaten teaching, and mbak Sumini (his wife, a sindhen) can't go along unfortunately. He didn't sound very excited actually and kept reiterating that if he doesn't like it he can come back. But at any rate he doesn't plan on coming back for a whole year.
