Year 8, #3

25 January 2009
Home of Bp. Rahayu Supanggah, Benawa, Palur

On Sunday night, 25 January 2009, we had the 3rd klenengan in the 8th fiscal year running. The organizer of the gendhing was Bp. Kamso, and he also prepared the notation. He got inspired while working on the gendhing list, and wrote a new ladrang: Ldr .Ginugah in slendro nem, with dhandhanggula cakepan for the gerong. And he decided to write a vokal part (koor—and very nice if I may say so) for the existing Ktw Rangsang Tuban in pl 6, and give it a garap sesegan in the ompak.

This klenengan also served as a percobaan for Pak Panggah’s new gamelan. He purchased the pelog ages ago but just recently completed it with slendro. It is a very light gamelan, made so that it can be easily transported.

Pak Panut (gerong) was not able to attend as he has been quite ill with high blood pressure and a tight chest, as well as difficulty breathing. He was in the emergency room of a local hospital for 4 days and incurred quite a bill, which we are looking in to how to help him cover.

Bu Yayuk “Triyagan” was ill with the flu.

Ibu Mulyani was back in attendance after a long break—and everyone seemed very excited and happy to have her gorgeous voice back. She also seemed to enjoy the social interaction of the klenengan.

(Actually--yes Alan I’m going to note it for your benefit!—at the VERY beginning, mas Wakidi played gender for about one kenongan and then called Furqon over. When mas Darsono saw as Wakidi was playing gender, he went over to play ciblon/kebar, but when mas Wakidi left he did too and mas Kuat took over. It was a pretty amusing case of musical chairs.)
