30 August 2015 On Sunday, 30 August 2015 we had the seventh klenèngan in the 13th year of Pujangga Laras. This was held, for the very first time, at the home of Ki Manteb Soedharsono. Ki Manteb had requested the klenèngan for the eve of his 67th birthday. He has recently built a new pendhopa, which he was celebrating with two nights of events, a klenèngan on Sunday and then a wayang on Monday the 31st. Ki Manteb Soedharsono was not only highly complimentary, appreciative, respectful, and kind to the musicians, but also DONATED Rp 3,000,000 in cash to Pujangga Laras in a surprise move last night, in addition to supplying all the food for the evening and not accepting any tips for his waiters, parking attendants, or other helpers. Although his house is too far to have the klenèngan on a regular basis, it was a terrific evening. The gendhing were organized by Bp Wakidi Dwidjomartono in collaboration with Ki Manteb Soedharsono. A number of Ki Manteb’s colleagues had also requested a pedhalangan discussion, so Bp Bambang Murtiyoso, Bp Blacius Subono, Dr Sugeng Nugroho, and Gusti Benawa ran a small discussion in between gendhing. BudgetWe spent Rp 9.050.000, which at the rate of Rp 13,500 = $1 comes to US$ 670. We gave the musicians more than usual since it was a 45-minute trip to get there, but also all the musicians saw Pak Manteb hand over the donation in public and obviously expected some of the benefit of this in their envelope (!). |
