Year 13, #1

25 July 2014
Home of Ki Purbo Asmoro, Gebang, Kadipiro, Solo

On Friday, 25 July 2014, we had the first klenèngan in the 13th year of Pujangga Laras. It was held at the home of Ki Purbo Asmoro, Gebang, Kadipiro, Solo and started at 8:00 finishing at 2:00.

The gendhing were set by Bapak Suyadi Téjapangrawit, with a focus on pieces characteristic of RRI Solo in the 1970s and 1980s. It was really very wonderful musically. Beautiful music and a lot of interaction socially between players.

Ibu Tukinem and Bp Mujiono were able to attend, as it was the opening to a new year for Pujangga Laras, and we had a cutting of the tumpeng (yellow rice cone offering) ceremony.

Bambang Asmoro, Ki Purbo Asmoro’s younger brother, happened to be visiting from Jakarta. He owns the server www.wayangshow.com that often broadcasts wayang. He was not prepared and had not planned anything, but got his laptop out, put it on a chair, and broadcast from there, internationally. This probably won’t be a regular occurrence as it costs a fee if we are to have good sound quality.

MULYARARAS to commemorate the deaths of Bp Sri Joko Raharjo and his wife Christin Mei Wulandari and their 11-month old child Sri Satya Avatara. They were killed in a car crash in Mantingan, Ngawi on 9 June 2014. Their 6-year-old daughter Nala Kencana Wirabumi survived the crash. Sri Joko, age 30, was a gérong singer for Pujangga Laras and nephew to Ki Purbo Asmoro. The mulyararas (played in gadhon minus vocal style, with the lights off) was meant both for those killed in the crash, but also to send best wishes for the future of little Nala.
