Last night, Saturday 4 February 2012, we had the FIRST klenèngan in the 11th year running of Pujangga Laras. I can’t really even describe to those of you who have not attended the klenèngan, especially recently, how much this event means to the lives of so many elderly musicians here in Solo. Thanks for all your support!

The klenèngan was held at the home of the rector of ISI (Institute of Indonesian Arts in Solo), Prof. Dr. Slamet Suparno, on Jl. Kutut Manggung in Perumahan RC (a neighborhood of musicians’ homes connected with ISI—all the street names are the names of gendhing: Jl. Asmaradana, Jl. Karawitan, Jl. Renyep, etc), Jatèn, Karanganyar. It began at 8:30 and ran through to 02:15 am.

There were a number of other events going on: it was the last night of Sekatèn at the Kraton which meant that musicians like Pak Saptono and Pak Pahang were over at the Kraton, and there was a wayang at PDMN (the Mangkunegaran’s school of Pedalangan) so that meant Pak Mujiono and Pak Hali were unable to attend.

Pak Karman is still too ill to attend after his stroke, but Pak Yadi is now able to come.
